As a small charity, our income comes primarily from our membership fees and fund raising activities. Box office receipts are variable; a Christmas show such as Hansel and Gretel (December 2015) can usually be relied on to cover its costs and give us a little over to invest in the forthcoming productions. There is no certainty about this however, and so we look to get whatever help we can from the wider community to defray our expenses.
Putting on a production is costly. In addition to the annual overheads, the hire of our rehearsal space, insurance, and storage costs; the specifics for each show - venue hire, performance licence fees, lighting, costumes, props and all the bits and pieces that go to put on a successful production - can easily come to a figure in excess of £2500.
We aim to keep ticket prices low to ensure that our shows are accessible to all. This means that we do rely on the support of donors and sponsors to ensure that our production values remain consistently high.
